This will be a winter like none of us have experienced before, a time to be with your family is on hold during the pandemic. So while we may be more restricted during the holidays and winter, there are still some good things we can do to stay safe and see in the new year.
Security
This time of the year is when crime rises, with thieves looking to capitalise on the festive spirit. Ensure you home is secure by keeping doors locked even when you are home and windows accessible from the outside are closed or locked.
It is also a good idea to keep your movements less public, as a known strategy is for thieves to check social media to find if someone has announced they are away or even out for the night.
Home safety
Everyone loves a beautifully lit home, those extra lights brighten up the room but they also pose a fire risk. Check your smoke alarms are working, unplug things like lights if you don't need them and this also saves you money.
Heating
We mentioned in a previous newsletter how to save money with keeping your home consistently warm, but something to think about us the frost descends on London is your pipes also need to stay warm.
Keep your heating on low to avoid the temperature dropping below freezing in your pipes. Sub zero water can cause problems from small leaks to expanding bursting pipes.
