After the 6th of April 2022 landlords and letting agents will be required to use the Right to Rent Online Checking Service for Biometric Residence Card / Permit holders. This is part of the move towards a stronger digital system for the UK Government and Home Office, which will now be cemented in legislation changing the immigration system.
The current law requires all prospective tenants aged 18 or over to be checked by a letting agent or landlord. It must be established before a tenancy is granted that the tenant can legally rent a residential property in the UK.
The current COVID adjusted checks allow tenants to send scanned documents / photos through email or the mobile app for checks in combination with video calls, this will come to an end on the 5th of April 2022.
